NEW 102.7’s “Karen Carson in the Morning” Raised Over $31,000 During Its Walk for Animals

NEW 102.7 FM (WNEW-FM), an Audacy station in New York, raised over $31,000 for Animal Care Centers of New York City (ACC of NYC) during its second “Walk for Animals.” Anthony “Intern Anthony” Malerba, co-host of “Karen Carson in the Morning,” walked 13.8-miles on Friday morning across Hylan Boulevard, the longest street in Staten Island to encourage the community to donate and help local animals in need.
“We are incredibly proud of the ‘Karen Carson in the Morning’ show for raising over $31,000 for the ACC of NYC,” said Rob Miller, Brand Manager, NEW 102.7. “This is a cause that is deeply personal to the team, and to see Intern Anthony, a Staten Island native, walk the longest street in his home borough to rally support shows an extraordinary level of dedication. This effort, combined with the amazing generosity of our listeners, is a powerful example of the community spirit NEW 102.7 stands for.”
Listeners came out to support Intern Anthony during his trek including the Staten Island Tech High School Marching Band and restaurants like Panini Grill, who delivered him a sandwich to fuel his walk. He received so much support that the team made him into a human picnic table so he had space to put all his food.
While Intern Anthony was on the road, his co-hosts Karen Carson and Johnny Mingione supported him on the airwaves, prompting listeners to donate to ACC of NYC and giving listeners live updates on how the walk was progressing.
ACC of NYC strives to keep the city safe and end animal homelessness across the five boroughs by rescuing abandoned cats, dogs and rabbits and placing them with loving families. Along with adopting animals directly to the public, ACC of NYC works with its New Hope partners, a network of over 200 placement organizations to find homes for these animals and provide resources for pet owners to best care for their furry family members.
