Entercom On-air Personality Angelo Cataldi Recognized by Philadelphia Sports Writers Association
Cataldi Honored with Illustrious Bill Campbell Broadcast Award
PHILADELPHIA, PA – January 22, 2020 – Entercom, a leading media and entertainment company and the unrivaled leader in sports radio, congratulates Angelo Cataldi, on-air morning show host for SportsRadio 94WIP (WIP-FM) in Philadelphia, for being named the recipient of this year’s Bill Campbell Broadcast Award, presented by Philadelphia Sports Writers Association (PSWA). The award, named after the legendary Philadelphia broadcaster, recognizes local sportscasters, talk show hosts, and radio and television reporters who display an excellence in broadcasting. Cataldi was honored at the 116th annual Philadelphia Sports Writers Association banquet at the Crowne Plaza in Cherry Hill, NJ on January 20.
“This award has great meaning to me for several reasons,” said Cataldi. “First, it falls on the exact date of my 30th anniversary at WIP. Second, it comes from the Philadelphia sports writers, a role which I’m very proud to have had. Last, but not least, this award bears the name of one of my inspirations in broadcasting, Bill Campbell. I will never live up to Bill’s legacy, but this award gives me more reason than ever to try.”
“Congratulations on this well-deserved honor from the PSWA for SportsRadio 94WIP’s Angelo Cataldi,” said David Yadgaroff, Senior Vice President and Market Manager, Entercom Philadelphia. “Now in his 30th year, Angelo has been setting the daily agenda for Philadelphia sports fans. His passion for our town, our teams and our fans is unmatched.”
Cataldi is the fifth recipient of the Bill Campbell Broadcast Award. Previous winners include Philadelphia Flyers and Phillies broadcaster Jim Jackson, Philadelphia 76ers announcer Marc Zumoff, Phillies radio announcers Scott Franzke and Larry Anderson and Philadelphia Eagles announcer Merrill Reese, who won the inaugural award in 2016.
Cataldi is a 30-year market veteran and has anchored SportsRadio 94WIP’s morning show since 1990. Since his arrival, the morning show has consistently ranked as a top-rated radio program in Philadelphia. Before joining the station, he served as the Philadelphia Eagles beat writer for The Philadelphia Inquirer, where he earned two Pulitzer Prize nominations.
In addition to Cataldi, Phillies All-Star catcher J.T, Realmuto was named Professional Athlete of the Year, Villanova Wildcats head coach Jay Wright won the program’s Good Guy Award, former Eagles player Connor Barwin was named the recipient of the Ed Snider Distinguished Humanitarian Award, and the Stanley Cup champion St. Louis Blues, represented by their coach, former Flyers player Craig Berube, were named Team of the Year. Philadelphia comedian Joe Conklin performed at the event, which was attended by new Phillies manager Joe Girardi, Flyers head coach Alain Vigneault and others.
