Audacy’s News/Talk 98.9 Word to Host Live On-Air Debate for Spartanburg Sheriff Runoff in Greenville

News/Talk 98.9 WORD (WYRD-FM), an Audacy station in Greenville, will host an exclusive, one-on-one live, in-studio debate between Spartanburg County Republican sheriff candidates Bill Rhyne and Rusty Clevinger on August 14 from 4:00 p.m. ET to 5:00 p.m. ET, on “The Charlie James Show.”
Moderated by veteran broadcaster Charlie James, and in partnership with Palmetto House Republican Women, the debate will tackle pressing questions surrounding crime, public safety, department leadership and the future direction of law enforcement in one of South Carolina’s most-watched local races.
“Sheriffs are the front line of law enforcement,” says James. “This runoff is more than just politics, it’s about trust, leadership and accountability. Voters deserve answers, and this is their chance to get them.”
The broadcast comes just days before the Republican runoff election set for August 19, and offers voters a rare, unfiltered opportunity to hear directly from the two contenders competing to lead the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office. Early voting for the runoffs will be held August 13-15, with the general election taking place on November 4.
