B101's 16th Annual Christmas Choir Competition Supports Philadelphia Area Music Program

Audacy Philadelphia’s B101’s (WBEB-FM) 16th Annual Christmas Choir Competition wrapped with a performance at the Trans-Siberian Orchestra: The Lost Christmas Eve Tour at the Wells Fargo Center on December 22, 2024 at 3 p.m. Winners of the competition, Carl Sandburg Middle School and Pottsgrove High School each performed prior to the tour and were awarded $5,000 for their school music programs.

“It’s always incredible to see the heart and soul these students and teachers put into their music, especially when you think about the challenges they face with limited funds,” said David Yadgaroff, Senior Vice President and Market Manager, Audacy Philadelphia. “The talent in our own backyard is unbelievable and we’re thrilled to be able to honor these amazing school music programs with our awards.”

In early October 2024, WBEB-FM invited schools to submit holiday songs for consideration in the contest. The competition featured two divisions – Kindergarten through 8th grade and 9th grade through 12th grade. Nine semi-finalists were chosen from each division to compete in the competition. Listeners voted for their favorite choir on www.B101Philly.com from December 2 to December 13.

The three winners in the K-8 grade division were announced on Friday, December 6. Carl Sandburg Middle School from Huntingdon Valley, PA won first place for their performance of “Carol of the Bells,” received a $5,000 cash prize and performed their song prior to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra: The Lost Christmas Eve Tour. Second place went to Indian Valley Middle School from Harleysville, PA who took home $2,000 cash prize. Third place prize of $1,000 was awarded to Cardinal John Foley Regional School from Havertown, PA.

In the 9-12 grade division, Pottsgrove High School from Pottsgrove, PA won first place prize of $5,000 in cash and the opportunity to perform “Oh Come, O Come, Emmanuel” prior to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra: The Lost Christmas Eve Tour. Second place and a cash prize of $2,000 went to Ridley High School from Folsom, PA. Springfield High School from Springfield, PA placed third and took home $1,000.
