Audacy Partners with Justin Wolfers’ Platypus Economics

Audacy to exclusively handle sales and distribution for Wolfers’ fast-growing “Platypus Economics” podcast

New York, NY – September 15, 2026 – Audacy announced a partnership to exclusively handle sales and distribution for Justin Wolfers’ critically acclaimed podcast “Platypus Economics.”

“Platypus Economics” explores the economic forces behind the news, culture, and everyday decisions that shape people’s lives, and makes it all clear, useful, and actually fun.

Wolfers is a Professor of Economics and a Professor of Public Policy at the University of Michigan, a Visiting Professor at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), and a frequent expert on top news networks, named “Cable’s Favorite Economist” by The New York Times. “Platypus Economics” is a key part of a broader digital media venture from Wolfers spanning podcasting, YouTube, newsletters, and social platforms, all built around his belief that economics is one of the most powerful tools people can use to better understand — and improve — their lives. The partnership expands Audacy’s growing slate of premium  business, financial, and economics programming, bringing Wolfers’ distinctive approach to economics to an even broader audience across all channels.

“Platypus Economics” is available on YouTube and everywhere podcasts are available. New episodes are released several times per week. Follow, watch, and listen to the show here

Wolfers describes Platypus Economics as a mission-driven venture: “I want to teach the world economics,” he said. “We all have a different theory for what ails us, but mine is that if most people knew a bit more economics, they could live better, richer, fuller lives. Partnering with Audacy gives me the opportunity to take that mission  to a far-reaching, engaged audience.”

“Justin has a unique gift for translating economic ideas into the everyday — he’s the relatable expert every curious listener wishes they’d had in their college econ class,” said Leah Reis-Dennis, Head of Podcasts, Audacy. “‘Platypus Economics’ is a natural addition to our best-in-class portfolio of expert-led podcasts across news, business, wellness, and entrepreneurship. We look forward to expanding Justin’s reach even further and connecting with the brands and advertisers that want to engage with his smart and highly engaged audience.”

Dr. Wolfers earned his Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University in 2001. He earned his undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Sydney in his native Australia in 1994, winning the University Medal. Dr. Wolfers frequently writes for the New York Times, often appears on TV, radio, and in print, and is an award-winning teacher.

Initial Digital negotiated the deal on behalf of Justin Wolfers.

About Justin Wolfers:

Justin Wolfers fell in love with economics as a teenager in suburban Sydney — and he’s been making it irresistible ever since. Today he’s a professor of economics and public policy at the University of Michigan, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, a visiting professor at UNSW in his native Australia, and one of the world’s most trusted and recognized voices on the economy — on TV, radio, and in print (thanks, Aussie accent!). The credentials are rock solid: an economics degree from the University of Sydney, where he won the University Medal; a Harvard Ph.D. earned as a Fulbright Scholar; faculty stops at Stanford, Wharton, and Princeton; and a nod from the IMF as one of the 25 economists shaping how the world thinks about the global economy. But what makes Wolfers one of a kind is the delivery: the New York Times calls him “Cable’s favorite economist,” and his hometown newspaper says he’s “Steve Irwin, reincarnated as an economist.” Over a decade of teaching Econ 101 at Michigan (and collecting teaching awards along the way), a best-selling economics textbook co-written with his partner and fellow economist Betsey Stevenson, and dozens of New York Times columns have all sharpened his signature move — turning data into stories about the things people actually care about: jobs, money, marriage, and happiness. Now his classroom is getting bigger than ever with Platypus Economics, a digital media venture bringing economics education to the world across newsletter, podcast, YouTube, and social — helping curious people everywhere see clearly in murky waters.
