Audacy Pride: Meet CHANNEL Q’s CJ Robinson
CJ Robinson spends his day behind the mic, hosting mornings on CHANNEL Q, the afternoon drive at MIX 105.1 in Orlando, and Miamians can hear him on 102.7 the Beach.
He got his start in radio when he was 16 and has been in Orlando ever since he took the midday gig at MIX 105.1 in 2012. While chasing after the acting bug in 2021, he always looked back to Audio.
CJ is inspired by CHANNEL Q’s ability to make a difference as an outlet for people to be themselves, whether there’s a queer person who listens in from somewhere not as accepting to feel more comfortable with themselves or CJ living and speaking authentically in the booth.
“I was never comfortable with my sexuality until I came to CHANNEL Q. I feel like, for the first time in my career, I can be myself unapologetically,” he says.
In helping others live unapologetically, CJ suggests checking in with LGBTQ+ coworkers. He says that just knowing there are supportive people in the workplace amidst a hostile world can combat the loneliness many queer people face.
CJ is passionate about elevating more LGBTQ+ voices in Audio. He believes companies need to throw their full weight behind a cause because it affirms the belonging of marginalized people in that workplace. “If you decide to step into the arena and stand up for LGBTQ+ rights…stand tall even when it’s unpopular,” he says.
